 2016 Preview 


       Oak Grove completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Oak Grove just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region four with a 2-4 region record.

       The Tigers improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2011. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Oak Grove has gone a combined 26-35. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Grove has managed to compile a record of 124-133. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 4A and 202nd in the AHSAA.

Tom Hannah retires from the sidelines after four seasons at Oak Grove. His record with the program was 12-28 without a playoff appearance.


Pat Burchfield will take over the football program at Oak Grove for the 2016 season. He graduated from Oak Grove in 2001, and UAB in 2006. Burchfield played for, and was hired by Mike Battles Jr. He has been at Oak Grove for 10 years, and was the defensive coordinator from 2014-2016.



       The Oak Grove Tigers will play in Class 4A region four during the 2016 season.

       The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region four this season. Oak Grove has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2010 but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Brookwood on Friday, August 26 at Billy Joe Young Field. Last year the Brookwood Panthers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 6A region four. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Holt by a score of 14-13.

       Oak Grove and Brookwood have met a total of 46 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 17-28-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Oak Grove winning by a score of 13-7.
